BEST RED LIPSTICK FOR FALL!
Ekene Patience, our resident red lipstick expert, has 80+ shades floating around her purse or the bottom of some drawer. What began as a teenage yearning to be like Marilyn Monroe has clearly become an obsession. Lucky us! I , Ekene have kindly narrowed it down to reds I am mostly excited to wear this fall.
1.
($30) – If you’re looking for a perfect blue-based red that stays put and isn’t drying, a “Christmas red” if you will, then this is the one. It really is worth the money, and this is coming from a girl whose all-time favorite reds cost $1.99 from Wet & Wild.2.($24) – MUFE makes great red lipsticks and their latest launch had me in a frenzy. I had a swatch of this perfect cherry red on my hand for three days, no joke. This stuff does NOT kiss off. It’s mega-matte (the texture might turn you off; I’m getting used to it) but comes with a gloss attached. I obviously hate lip gloss so I don’t use that. If I’m working a long day at Len Druskin, I am probably wearing this.3.($24) – I LOVE THESE LIP PENCILS SO MUCH. They are foolproof, even if you have to buy that stupid six dollar
to use them. Cruella is femme fatale, pure devastation red. The Ava Gardner of reds. (I also recommend
and
4.
($8) – This raspberry-red is a classic. I don’t feel comfortable in pink lipstick, so Cherries in the Snow is perfect for me. 5.($16) – Do I consider Dubonnet a real red? Not really, to be honest. It’s brown-based, and generally I leave those for my auburn-haired mother. However, the deep lips shown on pretty much every fall runway won me over. It definitely makes blue eyes pop and would be lovely on darker skin tones.xoxo Ekene Patience

Lupita Nyong’o’s Best Beauty Tips and Makeup Must-Haves
To say that 2014 was a big year for Lupita Nyong’o might be the understatement of the century. It was monumental—titanic even. She was nominated for just about every statue on the awards show circuit for her role in 12 Years a Slave and took home the grand prize: Oscar. Nyong’o also landed a coveted contract with Lancôme, providing the world with a fresh face and perspective on beauty—a quality she often struggled to find within herself as a young girl. She noted in an acceptance speech at the Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon: “My mother would say to me, ‘You can’t eat beauty. It doesn’t feed you.’And these words plagued and bothered me. I didn’t really understand them, until finally I realized that beauty was not a thing that I could acquire or consume, it was something that I just had to be.”
Nyong’o undoubtedly has an exquisite way of being, one that sets the world abuzz with the sheer revelation of her lip balm. (The tube she handed over to Ellen DeGeneres at the Academy Awards sold out overnight.) Here, the hair, skin, and makeup essentials she swears by—some of which she’ll probably have on hand as she preps for her appearance at this weekend’s Golden Globes.

Advanced Génifique Youth Activating Concentrate, $78
"I use Lancôme Génifique serum, which is a great hydrator, and you can use it before bed. You can also use it before makeup and on makeup, which is nice…I also apply it after a long flight when my skin is dry. I try to keep my regimen simple so that I remember it. With all the travel, I don’t want too many bottles of God knows what, then I don’t get through customs!"

7 Secrets To
Getting A Flat Tummy (Without Exercise)
That washboard stomach still eluding you? Try a few extra tricks to get
your abs into gear
For women particularly the tummy can be a very difficult place to lose
weight. Even if you're hitting the gym and eating right you can still suffer a
paunch that just won't shift.
So sometimes, you need to employ some
non-exercise based tricks to really see the difference. Try these flat tum
hacks for a stomach that would make Cara D jel.
Sleep More
Yes, this is a bonafide tummy-shrinking
tip. Of course being asleep means you can't snack (unless you're a sleep
walking fridge picker), but also sleep regulates your hormones, especially
those caused by stress. By giving your body the chance to deal with stress
better you won't be so likely to reach for a high-sugar snack when you're
frazzled. And because the cortisol you body reduces when stressed messes with
insulin it'll help keep your blood sugar stable - key to a flat stomach.
So if you skipping sleep in favour of
the gym you might actually be doing yourself a diservice. Aim for 7-8 hours a
night and give your body a break if you need it.
Stand Up Straight
If you want to slim down your stomach,
stand up straight. Slight tweaks to your posture can make all the difference.
Standing correctly – up tall with your head held high – has an instant slimming
effect and encourages you to walk with confidence. By naturally drawing your
tummy in, you strengthen your core without realising. And if this focus on your
posture has inspired you to take further steps to weight loss success, try
Pilates. It’s a far cry from intense sessions on the cardio machines, and
leaves you feeling spiritually in tune. Stretch your way to a slimmer you.
Drink Milk
To beat a rounded tummy, increase your
milk intake, say researchers at the University of Tennessee.
According to the Nutrition Institute, drinking three glasses of milk a day can
work wonders when teamed with a reduced-calorie diet. They believe that the
calcium and dairy combo helps speed up the metabolism, leaving more room for
fat-burning and smaller tums. Worth a try!
Go Shopping
If you’ve piled on the pounds over
winter, going clothes shopping is probably the last thing on your mind. But
pick the right wardrobe, and you can look slimmer in seconds. Don’t buy clothes
that don’t fit. If they’re too tight, they’ll cling to your figure and
highlight every bump, whereas baggy clothes are simply unflattering.
Staple items and style proportion are
key to looking slim. If you’re sporting skinny jeans, balance them out with an
oversized jacket. If your dress resembles a potato sack, belt-up for an instant
waistline. And remember – accentuate your best bits. Flattering colours such as
black draw the eye to all the right places, along with statement jewellery.
Ladies, high-waisted pencil skirts are
perfect for disguising problem areas. They cinch the waist and create an
enviable hourglass silhouette. Team with killer heels for a quick confidence
boost. And for the fellas, dig out the denim – jeans are always
super-flattering.
If you're not much of a fashionista, take a friend you trust to tell you
the truth about how you look.
Spice It Up
Turn the heat up a notch with
fat-fighting spices. If you’re brave enough, flavour your food with some
super-hot cayenne pepper – it’s said to shrink fat tissues and supress your
appetite, leaving the tummy nice and flat in time for spring. And if that doesn’t
hit the spot, give cinnamon a try – it’s great for the metabolism. By adding it
to your meals, you can help reduce blood sugar and cholesterol levels. But
don’t sweat it; you don’t have to go spicy. A clove of garlic can also improve
your metabolism and eliminate fat from cells.
Guzzle Some Grapefruit
Celebs including Brook Shields and
Kylie Minogue swear by the grapefruit diet, but why? Eating half a grapefruit
before every meal is said to boost the metabolism and leave you feeling fuller
for longer – ideal for secret eaters. Teamed with a hearty morning brekkie,
grapefruit could be your ticket to a manageable calorie controlled diet. Low in
calories and high in nutrients; if you can bare the bitter taste, this
superfood is a great addition to the breakfast table.
Laugh It Off
When you’re feeling down about the extra weight
you’ve put on over Christmas, just laugh it off. According to research made by
the International Journal of Obesity, it not only brightens the
mood, but it also burns calories. By sticking on your favourite comedy and
having a good giggle, you can “increase both your heart rate and calorie
expenditure by up to 20 per cent.” Think of it as a cardio workout on the
inside. A happy you equals a healthier you – flat tummy included.

Contouring is one of those things that most of us are scared to try….but once we do we have a hard time living without it. I’m not talking about the Kim K type of contouring, that stuff is for photoshoots and magazine covers. But we can all learn to appreciate a bit of natural, everyday contouring and I’ve found that the Contouring Kit from Aesthetica ($60) makes it super simple. The Aesthetica Contouring Kit comes with six colors for contouring + highlighting as well as super simple instructions for how the shading should be placed depending on your face shape and what you want to accomplish. Don’t worry, not all six shades go on your face! You simply test them out to determine which shades create the most flattering, natural effect on your face, then consult the diagram below to determine where the color should be applied.
I love the dark bronze shade in the lower right of the palette (I’m already wearing a hole in mine!) it’s the perfect matte brown that pops cheekbones while adding a healthy glow. As the diagram suggested, I applied this color all the sides of my face in the shapes of a “3” and backwards “3” and lightly along the sides of my nose using an angled brush. Then I used my favorite fan brush to lightly apply the highlighter (I like the top middle highlighter) to the center of my nose, the arches of my brows, and lightly in the center of my forehead. I think the before/after photo speaks for itself, my face has so much more dimension!
In this picture below, I did some conturing, I love to apply blush after contourung my face, but this is absolutely optional
Contouring should help bring a healthy glow of color back into your skin without looking caked on or overwhelming, this palette definitely takes the guesswork out of the entire process and I’m excited to share a special offer with you from Aesthetica. At this point in my life, I think you could probably call me a certified Lipstick Expert. I’ve worn lipstick pretty much daily since I was a teenager and my collection of colors totals … oh, a kabillion. (Seriously, they’re all over our house. I can’t even count ‘em). My standards are pretty high by now, so believe me when I say that Estee Lauder’s new line of lippies, Pure Color Envy, is one of the best I’ve ever used. Ever. I practically mauled my UPS man to get my hands on them, and once applied, I was bowled over. I’ve long been an Estee lipstick fan, but these are something else entirely. The Pure Color Envy lipsticks are highly pigmented, delivering full color in one creamy swipe. It’s intense, but wearable. I love that they’re the perfect mix of textures; they last like a matte, hydrate and plump like a cream and have a subtle sheen. I’ll be wearing the rich, deep Red Ego and magenta/berry Insolent Plum (above) all fall. That’s a pretty big statement from a true addict like me.
My second faourite lipstick is Mac incase you can not afford Estee Lauder lipstick!
